A great story in time for the Christmas break of how standards developed for cook stoves to reduce smoke are improving health in third world nations around the globe

and the environment in third world nations around the globe.

Ai Group has been represented on EE-003 Clean Cook Stoves by Tony Blake of Partners in International Collaborative Community Aid for many years. Tony has also been active on ISO Committee TC 285 Clean Cookstoves and Clean Cooking Solutions.

The objective of these committees is to develop and review standards that will allow communities in third world countries to use a variety of fuels on more efficient cookstoves with improved health and environmental outcomes as an alternative to basic inefficient biofuel stoves, eg cow pat powered stoves and charcoal stoves in the middle of the bark hut (I kid you not!).

    Tony will present to us:

    • How he became interested in third world aid and specifically cook stoves
    • The environmental and health impacts of poor cooking practices in developing countries
    • Involvement of WHO, UN and ISO in the issue
    • Why standards are needed for cook stoves?
    • How Ai Group became involved?
    • What has been achieved?
    • The South Pacific cook stove trials
    • What this has to do with Australia?

Who Should Attend: Everyone interested in a very different story about standards!
