Hi Blair
Many thanks for following that through. Look forward to the PSS Scheme.
Kind regards
Amer

Hi Amer,
EA is working on preparing a professional standards scheme - obviously this is above the paygrade of the SFS committee, it's a national EA initiative. In discussions on Friday, our EA liaison staff noted that a PSS is unlikely to result in changes to insurance premiums.

Hi Blair
Thanks for your email
Please see attached guide
Professional Standards Legislation has been progressively implemented across Australia since 1994. The Legislation enables the creation of schemes to limit the civil liability of professionals and members of occupational associations and groups.
The Lawyers have had this coverage for a while and now AIBS has it as well.
A Professional Standards Scheme may go a long way to addressing the insurance crisis facing the Industry Professional Indemnity costs as per below legislation.
Kind regards
Amer

Hi Amer, thanks for responding. We are in an SFS National committee meeting currently. Most of your points are clear, but on your first point - what would a professional standards scheme achieve that is not currently achieved by being CPEng/NER?

Hi Stephen
Thanks for your post. In response I suggest the following:
1. SFS Professional Standards Scheme
I'm thinking of becoming a Building Surveyor :) because it appears the AIBS have their act together with their professional standards scheme as shown by image below. With FPAA also having their own scheme it appears that EA and SFS have been left behind and AIBS/ FPAA members are getting more value from their membership
2. PI Insurance
This remains an issue for the industry, especially small business. There is a lack of understanding of what a fire engineer does in the insurance market and we are treated similar to a Private Certifier in terms of risk profile.
3. Contracts
Similar issue as Point 2 on the legal side. A standard scope and duties of a Fire Engineer to attach to contracts would help to reduce the risk profile and also improve market quality.
4. Quantification and Risk Assessment
The Risk Engineering Society is interested in working with SFS to assist with Risk Assessment Training and presenting on the REBOK (Risk Engineering Book of Knowledge) to SFS Members. Can this be facilitated via workshop at the back of the 2023 conference. A University has expressed an interest in this.
5. Promoting Fire Engineering to the next Generation
We need a promotional video clip to show the general public what a Fire Engineer does to attract the next generation of fire engineers to the profession.
6. Performance Solutions Misconception
There is a misconception in the industry that fire performance solutions are partly responsible for the building defects and cladding crisis we are experiencing. Some promotional videos to address this misconception would be great. A parallel would be the videos and promotional material put out by the AAC to highlight that Private Certification is not responsible for all defects crisis in the industry
All the best
Kind regards
Amer
