Security engineering – when a facility has to comply

When:  Oct 10, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM (ET)

Overview

Since ancient times, Security has always been a feature of engineering; in more modern times, buildings for specific roles such as banks, casinos, defence, and other sensitive government sites have required security features. Then, as threats evolved, the need to protect iconic sites, transportation hubs and mass gathering areas from blast and fragmentation was followed closely by the need for almost all sites to consider vehicle control measures and deterrence of active armed offenders. In addition to these, today's physical engineering also needs to consider cyber security controls so that a seamless protective security effect is one of the outcomes for a secure facility. Today, there are also a myriad of Commonwealth frameworks that establish the security requirements for the design and operation of facilities, not just for Commonwealth sites themselves but also for those that are recognised as being systems of national significance or being part of critical supply chains. These will be examined, including the Protective Policy Framework, The Defence Security Principles Framework, the Hosting Certification Framework, the Security of Critical Infrastructure and the Security Construction and & Equipment Committee.
